It is possible to recycle or reuse 100% of a toner bottle. A recent hypothetical study carried out by Xerox and Surrey University showed that if all manufacturers were to use their existing toner logistics to collect empties as well as deliver new, then there would be a dramatic positive effect on the environment. The problem with the study is it showed a hypothetical regional logistics setup that would require co-operation from many entities including the photocopier manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, engineers and consumers. Whilst the study shows a comprehensive solution to reducing waste from toner bottles, in reality it will take some time before such a solution is seen in practice.
