One of the most recent developments in the construction of photocopiers is the use of highest grade fire retardent bio-plastic. Whilst the bio-plastics are only being used in certain areas, this shows a promising step towards reducing the impact on the environment in the photocopier and printer industry.
Canon recently launched a new series of photocopier called the imageRUNNER advance. This includes the C5000, C7000 and C9000 pro series photocopiers. This new series of photocopier is partially made from bio-plastics and is the first photocopier in the industry to use bio-plastics. These plastics not only degrade, but they use less energy to produce. Whilst this new range of photocopiers from Canon do use bio-plastic, the bio-plastic is only used on the keyboard, cassette buttons and touch pen. As bio-plastic is used more and more in office equipment like photocopiers, the impact on the environment will become less and less.
